This is a primeur wine, basically the category that Beaujolais Nouveau has made famous, making a wine just a few months after the grapes were picked, using carbonic maceration. The comparisons with most Beaujolais Nouveau stop there. And, please, whatever superstition you may have about the 2020 vintage, remember wine is about transformation! In this wine 2020 tastes pretty fantastic, somehow. Blueberry and crackling, lively lip-smacking energy, with aromas of violets and rain-kissed rose petals. Very light, ethereal, and a little gamey, it was dangerously quaffable.
I was concerned this might not be able to hang with the duck breast I was searing and the creme de cassis reduction to accompany it, but the wine had enough earthy crunch and vibrant focus that it was fantastic with the duck. The playful, raw purity of the wine was thrilling. It had a tension and vulnerability that primeur doesn't typically express. Where most are simple and easy, this was unique, nervy and layered while sacrificing nothing in the way of freshness. But mostly it had a youthful hope that felt new and exciting, and what could be more refreshing than that?

We are open 12pm-7pm, seven days a week. Orders placed online are ready to be picked up within the hour.
Neighborhood delivery:
If you are requesting free local delivery, we are asking for a $75 minimum. Deliveries are made Monday - Saturday within our local neighborhood free of charge, defined by Eastern Parkway, Lafayette Ave, 5th Ave, and Franklin Ave. If you would like to tip our lovely delivery people, you can Venmo Vanderbilt-Wine-Merchants or add "Gratuity" to your cart.
Please order by 3pm to guarantee same-day delivery.
Greater Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan:
We make weekly hand deliveries outside of our neighborhood. These deliveries will incur a flat fee of $10. Once we receive your order we will reach out to coordinate the day and time. Orders are typically delivered within 1 week of purchase and usually sooner than that. If you need the wines earlier, or if you have any other special requests - please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to help you with whatever your needs are, no matter how specialized or unique!
